Termite Inspections in Sydney

Termites are something we all worry about as home owners, landlords or business tenants. Why? Because they feel invisible to an untrained professional who knows the warning signs of what to watch for. Sometimes it’s best to give you peace of mind by having a termite pest inspection carried out. This is why it’s imperative to contact your local termite pest control expert who can advise you if there are any signs of termite activity in and under your home and if activity is found we can act quickly and carry out a termite pest control & treatment.

A quick history lesson on termites – there are around 360 species of termites in Australia, however, only a small number cause damage. They’re in fact a great asset to our ecosystem as they recycle through dead and rotten timber and other plant matter.

If you think your Sydney home may have termites then following these three simple steps is essential:

1. Organise the KR Pest Control team to come out and INSPECT your premises 2. The KR Team will then TREAT your termite infestation 3. Lastly, our team will PROTECT your home, business or premises from termites & other pests.

To the untrained eye, termites can look like ants. Some have wings and can be mistaken for flying insects. They’re very discreet and we often have customers finding the damage before seeing any insects so watching for damage is important for identification.

Types of Termite

This is where it can get a little bit boring – but if you’re interested then we suggest you read on: There are a few types of termites, these include the king, queen, the workers, ailiates and the soldiers . These types of termites are called castes. Castes conduct individual tasks within the colony. It is a common misconception that any type of termite can cause damage. Without each caste working together they can’t survive. Each caste has unique characteristics that define them. To easily differentiate between termites and ants you can look at how many parts make up their body. Termites have two body parts, a head and body, ants have three body parts. In late spring & summer flying termites are seen regularly, these can be mistaken for ants, the main difference between a flying termite and flying ant is the flying termite has 4 wings which are all the same size, a flying ant has 4 wings 2 small and 2 large. If you have termites attacking your property you are most likely to see the damage before seeing any termites. Termite damaged timber can appear perfectly normal however when you tap it, it’s hollow. Termites use mud to insulate their inhabited spaces to regulate moisture and temperature. Sometimes you will see this mud protruding from walls or exposed timber. If you find anything suspicious please call KR Pest Control ASAP for a free quote and consultation. It is important that termites are not disturbed when found and it is very important they are not sprayed with domestic pesticides. When disturbed, some treatment methods can be compromised.

Termite Prevention Tips

At KR Pest Control we have over 50 years combined experience of timber pest inspections, over these years we have found all sorts of termite infestations however most of the time there are usual reoccurring instances that are the cause for termites to attack your property. Termites are not sentient and operate purely on instinct. This makes them quite predictable and they very rarely attack a house that doesn’t contain any conducive conditions. The main 5 conducive conditions we find in a home are below. Water leaks Termites are attracted to moisture, we often find termites in bathrooms or laundries that have recently had a water leak. If you do have a water leak within your home, it is recommended you have a termite inspection to asses the risk of termite attack. High Garden Beds Termites don’t need an invitation to attack your house, having raised garden beds against your home is certainly giving them one. Ensure garden mulch and soil levels are clear of subfloor vents and weep holes, if your home is on a concrete slab you should be able to see the top inch of the slab. Subfloor ventilation Termites love moisture and darkness, if your subfloor has inadequate ventilation it could be creating the perfect environment for termites and eventually leading to them be attracted to your home. KR Pest Control work closely with ventilation specialists to fix this problem. Formwork Mainly a problem in older homes, builders can leave the timber form work in your subfloor, this gives termites a direct route from the ground into your home, if you have any formwork or loose timbers within your subfloor you should remove them. Timber within ground contact Termites job in nature is to break down loose timber and leaf litter on the forest floor, having landscaping timbers or loose timbers in ground contact around your property will attract termites.
